T-Rays Burger Station – Built out of an old gas station, this home-grown restaurant is a favorite for locals and travelers alike. In fact, T-Ray’s has been featured in Southern Living, the Washington Post and USA Today as a top 50 burger joint in America. T-Ray’s only serves breakfast and lunch but is a must-stop if you’re looking for an authentic taste of Amelia Island’s cooking.
Ciao Italian Eatery – Italian food may not be the first cuisine that comes to mind during your island getaway, but Ciao is worth a trip. Chances are you’ll be warmly greeted by the restaurant owner, Luca, and when it’s time to order, you can never go wrong with the meatballs, signature thin crust pizza, and any of the homemade desserts.
Burlingame Restaurant – Looking for an upscale meal out on the island? This dinner-only venue offers a sophisticated seasonal menu for fresh, locally inspired entrees you can’t find anywhere else.
Must Drink
Mocama Beer Company – A perfect spot for craft-beer enthusiasts. The local brewery is just a few blocks off of historic downtown Fernandina Beach in the former Lasserre Motor Company building that has since been transformed into an elegant mid-century taproom.
The Palace Saloon – Not only is The Palace Saloon the oldest bar in Florida, but it was also the last tavern to close during Prohibition. Right on Centre Street in Downtown Fernandina, The Palace is a must-stop for their famous “Pirates Punch.”
Green Turtle Tavern – As the quirky name implies, the Green Turtle Tavern is an authentic local watering hole with plenty of character in a mostly outdoor setting. Stop by for live music, a round or two of ping pong, and a fun hangout with a diverse crowd during your stay.
Hidden Gems in Amelia Island
Boneyard Beach – Take a left out of Omni Amelia Island Resort and head south on A1A to the next island called Talbot Island, and you will arrive at Boneyard Beach. Roughly five minutes from the resort, Boneyard is a beach of giant trees that have become driftwood and is completely secluded. Park just off A1A and take a short walk down the beach access path to see it for yourself.
Fort Clench State Park – History buff or not, most travelers will enjoy a visit to Fort Clench. On the north end of the island is a state park that features a well-preserved Civil War era fort with daily tours, trails, biking and hiking, beach combing, sunbathing, swimming and surf fishing.
Best Way to Unwind in Amelia Island
Strolling the main Centre Street in downtown Fernandina is a must do! You’ll find adorable shops, restaurants, bars, and the street dead ends at the marina which is perfect for sunsets. Downtown Fernandina is also a frequent host of local festivals, sip n strolls and more. If you’re traveling in May, be sure to stop by the town’s famous Shrimp Festival!
